LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Peter M. Pryor Esq. upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Excellence in the Legal Profession
Award by the Capital District Black and Hispanic Bar Association

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Pryor has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Peter M. Pryor
Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Excellence
in the Legal Profession Award by the Capital District Black and Hispanic
Bar Association to be celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at the
State Bar Center-Great Hall in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Pryor will be receiving this prestigious award in
recognition of his courageous spirit and groundbreaking work as a
pioneer in the legal profession, and for his outstanding efforts to
improve the quality of life for people of color in the Capital District;
and
WHEREAS, A native of Savannah, Georgia, Peter M. Pryor first came to
Albany in 1947, after proudly serving his country as a member of the
United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Pryor received his bachelor's degree from Siena
College in 1952, and his Juris Doctor from Union University, Albany Law
School in 1954; and
WHEREAS, After receiving his law degree, Peter M. Pryor served as
Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York; General Counsel,
New York State Pure Waters Authority; Chairman, New York State Consumer
Protection Board; General Attorney of the State Insurance Fund; and
Counsel to the Law Firm of Nolan & Heller; and
WHEREAS,Today, this esteemed man has served as Principal in the Law
Offices of Peter M. Pryor where he has engaged in civil practice,
specializing in tort litigation and employer's liability defense liti-
gation since 1988; he is also the founder of the risk management and
consulting firm of Peter M. Pryor Associates; and
WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, Peter M. Pryor has served as a prac-
ticing attorney and active participant in the civic and community
affairs of the City of Albany; and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Pryor has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; in addition to his legal practice, he
provides considerable pro bono services to members of his community in
need and to various community and religious organizations; and
WHEREAS, A former President of the Albany Branch of the NAACP, Peter
M. Pryor is co-Chairman of the Legal Redress Committee of the New York
Conference of NAACP Branches and a Vice President and Board Member of
the Albany Inter-Racial Council; furthermore, he is a founding member of
the Urban League of the Greater Albany Area, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Pryor has been a vital part of such local boards and
commissions as the State University of Albany Foundation, the Board of
Cultural Vistas for Youth, the Albany Historic Foundation, Board of
Directors, Albany Institute of History and Art, Urban Cultural Park
Advisory Committee, and the Northeast Health, Inc. Board of Directors;
and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Peter M. Pryor has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Peter M. Pryor Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as recip-
ient of the Excellence in the Legal Profession Award by the Capital
District Black and Hispanic Bar Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Peter M. Pryor Esq.
