LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Veterans of
Foreign Wars Memorial Post 44 of Clifton Springs, New York
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate their
lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 25th
Anniversary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 44 of Clifton
Springs, New York; this auspicious occasion was celebrated in November
2014; and
WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the interests of the people of this
Empire State merit the commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 44 has served the
interests of the people of the Empire State by serving the Clifton
Springs Veterans and the community at large, for over 25 years; and
WHEREAS, On November 26, 1989, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial
Post 44 was founded by 18 Veterans, Walter Cybul, Steve Zadarlik, Clair
Chamberlain, William Cobbett, Leigh Smith, Robert Smith, Paul Wells,
Ralph Ogden, Tom Stephens, Mike Rush, Howard Brown, Jim Piper, Bernard
Meath, Newton Smith, Joseph Carver, Harold Flecher, Lloyd Habberfield,
and Roger Scott; and
WHEREAS, Throughout over two decades of service, Veterans of Foreign
Wars Memorial Post 44 has had 6 commanders, Walt Cybul, John Piehl,
Steve Zadarlik, Tom McKay, Lee N. Houser, and current Commander, Fran
Day; today the Post is also led by Lee N. Houser, Quartermaster, and
Post Historian; Mark Watts, Adjutant, and Senior Vice Commander; Ed
Wertz, Chaplain; Jim Sanford, Judge Advocate, and Trustee; Frank Alte-
nor, Service Officer; William Schwartz, Junior Vice Commander; Ron
Carpenter, Surgeon; and Trustees, Donald Thorn and Matt Maslyn; and
WHEREAS, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 44 strives to
promote community service within the community, remember the history and
heritage of our service branches, including, all veterans, past,
current, and future, and to assist veterans with military issues and
benefits; and
WHEREAS, Even though the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 44 is
a small group, they are one of the most active in New York State; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 44 was
honored to receive a Community Service Award from the National Veterans
of Foreign Wars, for upgrading their Veterans Memorial honoring all the
community's veterans; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 44
contributes to over 30 charitable, non-profit organizations, and partic-
ipated in the grand opening of Sampson Veterans Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 44
supports many community functions, such as, parades, ceremonies, Eagle
Scouts, presentations at schools, museums, historical societies, senior
homes and Veteran's funerals; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memori-
al Post 44 of Clifton Springs, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lee N. Houser, Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 44.
