LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 75th Anniversary of The Family
and Children's Society
WHEREAS, In the course of the development of the Empire State, where
shared concern and responsive effort have combined in commitment to
service, there have emerged among the distinguished citizenry of the
State of New York certain organizations of compelling distinction; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of The Family and Children's Society,
to be celebrated at a Gala Event on Friday, May 20, 2016; and
WHEREAS, In May of 1941, The Family and Children's Society was estab-
lished through the efforts of Esther W. Couper and a group of volunteers
from the Junior League of Binghamton who envisioned an agency that would
meet the overwhelming needs of individuals, families and children; and
WHEREAS, Today, The Family and Children's Society, a dynamic community
resource, consists of a dedicated staff, board of directors, and volun-
teers who serve with compassion and integrity; the Society places a high
value on quality care which reflects respect, responsiveness and flexi-
bility; and
WHEREAS, The Family and Children's Society serves the Southern Tier
region by offering a wide range of programs and services including a
family mental health clinic, school-based programs, sexual abuse treat-
ment program, elder counseling, and home care, as well as unique
programs such as the Vocational Incentive Program and Family Homes for
the Elderly; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, The Family and Children's Society served over 1,400
individuals and families; the organization continues to meet its goal to
help people improve the quality of their lives and to follow its mission
to renew hope, provide help, care and counseling, and strengthen people
through all stages of life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of The Family and Children's Society,
to be celebrated at a Gala Event on Friday, May 20, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Family and Children's Society.
