LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Candace Ianthe Baptiste,
Lupus advocate, ardent sports fan, and devoted member of her community

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Candace Ianthe Baptiste, a preeminent citi-
zen whose optimism and caring commitment will long serve as a standard
to which others might aspire; and
WHEREAS, Candace Ianthe Baptiste of Brooklyn, New York died on Friday,
July 31, 2015, at the age of 34; and
WHEREAS, Candace Ianthe Baptiste was born on July 2, 1981, to Judith
and Eugene Baptiste; and
WHEREAS, Candace Ianthe Baptiste, affectionately known as Candy Girl,
will be remembered as an enthusiastic Lupus advocate, and a laughing
daughter, sister, and friend; her infectious smile and sweet personality
was shared with everyone she came in contact with; and
WHEREAS, A bright student, Candace Ianthe Baptiste attended William
Prescott Public School 93, Village Community School, and Spence All-
Girls Preparatory School; after graduation; she earned her Bachelor's
degree in both Philosophy and Africana Studies from Hamilton College;
and
WHEREAS, A tremendous and talented athlete, Candace Ianthe Baptiste
played many sports including basketball, softball, volleyball, rugby;
she also enjoyed boxing and was an avid professional basketball fan; and
WHEREAS, Candace Ianthe Baptiste distinguished herself in her profes-
sion and by her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of her community; and
WHEREAS, Passionate about everything she did, Candace Ianthe Baptiste
touched hearts and motivated many through her work as a case worker and
basketball camp facilitator; and
WHEREAS, Candace Ianthe Baptiste is survived by her parents, Judith
and Eugene Baptiste; Grandmother, Jeanette Tate; three brothers, Eugene
II (Raquel), Montell, and Jedidah; one sister, Selena (Sean); four
aunts, Adenah, Khakma, Divinah "Bon", and Lenora; four uncles, Michael,
John, Kevin, and Clemons, four nieces, and three nephews; as well as
numerous cousins and friends; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Candace Ianthe Baptiste leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Candace Ianthe Baptiste, Lupus advocate, ardent
sports fan, citizen and devoted member of her community; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Candace Ianthe Baptiste.
