COMMENDING Karen and Mark Lieberstein upon the
occasion of being named Guests of Honor at the 45th
Annual Testimonial Dinner of the Young Israel of
Plainview on March 26, 2017

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals and organizations of remarkable
integrity and character who distinguish themselves in service to their
faith and community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Karen and Mark Lieberstein upon the occasion of being named
Guests of Honor at the 45th Annual Testimonial Dinner of the Young
Israel of Plainview to be celebrated on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at the
Jericho Jewish Center in Jericho, New York; and

WHEREAS, Young Israel of Plainview is comprised of more than 200
families who enjoy various youth programs, and Shiurim and educational
programs led by Rabbi Elie Weissman and Yoetzet Halacha Avital Weissman;
and

WHEREAS, Karen Lieberstein was one of three children born to Herb
and Marilyn Stolove in Queens, New York; she was raised in Plainview,
New York, where she attended Hebrew Academy of Nassau County (HANC) and
Solomon Schechter School; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from John F. Kennedy High School, Karen
Lieberstein earned her degree from the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst; and

WHEREAS, For many years, Karen Lieberstein has been employed as a
Corporate Paralegal for Kaye Scholer, and later Dornbush, Mensch,
Mandelstam & Schaffer; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Karen Lieberstein organized and
ran the HANC PTA Mother's Day Plant Sale; and

WHEREAS, Mark Lieberstein was the oldest of three children born to
Shirly and Ed Lieberstein in Brooklyn, New York; along with his brother
and sister, he grew up in Far Rockaway, Queens, where he attended Hillel
Day School and then the Hebrew Academy of Five Towns & Rockaway (HAFTR);
and

WHEREAS, An exceptional athlete, Mark Lieberstein graduated from
G.W. Hewlett High School where he lettered in both track and baseball;
after obtaining his degree from SUNY Albany, he furthered his education
by receiving his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law
in 1992; and


WHEREAS, Mark Lieberstein is a Partner with Kilpatrick Townsend LLP
where he focuses on intellectual property, brand licensing and
franchising; dedicated to his profession, he served as Chair of the
Cardozo Law School Alumni Association and the New York State Bar
Association Intellectual Property Section, and currently, serves as the
Chair of the New York City Bar Fashion Law Committee; and

WHEREAS, A devoted member of his community, Mark Lieberstein was a
member of both the HANC and the Young Israel of Plainview Board of
Directors; and

WHEREAS, Karen and Mark Lieberstein are the proud parents of four
children, Lauren, Jake, Julia, and Ava, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of their lives and rejoice in their achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which Karen and Mark Lieberstein
have displayed throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Karen and Mark Lieberstein upon the occasion of being named
Guests of Honor at the 45th Annual Testimonial Dinner of the Young
Israel of Plainview; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Karen and Mark Lieberstein.
