LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor
Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 21-27, 2017, as
Public Works Week in the State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official weeks that are set aside to appreciate the knowledge and skills
public works professionals bring for the betterment of the lives of
citizens of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 21-27, 2017, as
Public Works Week in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National Public Works Week; and
WHEREAS, Every year National Public Works Week gets bigger and
better; the number of participating municipalities continues to grow,
which means the number of citizens who are exposed to the value of
public works grows; and
WHEREAS, One of the main goals at the American Public Works
Association (APWA) is to educate the general public about the value and
necessities of public works projects throughout North America; and
WHEREAS, Since 1960, the APWA has sponsored National Public Works
Week; today, more than 29,000 members in the United States and Canada
use this week to energize and educate the public on the importance of
public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing and
operating at the heart of their local communities to improve everyday
quality of life; and
WHEREAS, The 2017 National Public Works Week Poster Theme is "Public
Works Connects Us"; this year, National Public Works Week celebrates the
vital role public works plays in connecting us all together; and
WHEREAS, As the cornerstone of civilization, public works provides,
maintains, and improves the structures and services which assure a
higher quality of life for our communities; its streets, roads, bridges,
and public transportation keep us linked together from coast to coast,
and its clean water and sanitation services keep us healthy and allow
our communities to grow and prosper; and
WHEREAS, The APWA, New York State, and the entire Nation salutes and
thanks the tens of thousands of public work professionals who diligently
work every day to strengthen the bond which keeps us all connected; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize these
exceptional public works professionals for their outstanding
contribution in adding to the quality of life in our State and Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 21-27, 2017, as
Public Works Week in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the American Public Works Association.
