HONORING Rachel Janish upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the President's
Volunteer Service Award by the Prudential Spirit of
Community Awards program
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Rachel Janish upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
President's Volunteer Service Award by the Prudential Spirit of
Community Awards program; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Janish distinguished herself as a young woman of
superlative ability, establishing a high standard of community service,
purposefulness of life, and sense of responsibility rarely achieved in
youthful years; and
WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, created in 1995
by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of
Secondary School Principals (NASSP), are designed to emphasize the
importance our Nation places on service to others, and to encourage all
young Americans to contribute to their communities; and
WHEREAS, A Kenmore West High School Senior, Rachel Janish has been
honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a certificate of
excellence from the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Janish is a member of the Link Crew Student Leaders,
where she mentors the youth new to the school; co-coordinator of the
Purple Pinkie Project with Kenmore Rotary, to aid the global effort to
eradicate polio; and Vice President, Fundraiser and Spirit Coordinator
for the Class of 2017; and
WHEREAS, On behalf of the United States President, Rachel Janish is
being recognized with the organization's highest honor, the President's
Volunteer Service Award; this prestigious award honors young volunteers
across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to
their communities; and
WHEREAS, The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes
Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their
time to serve their communities and their country; award recipients are
chosen based upon criteria including personal initiative, creativity,
effort, impact and personal growth; and
WHEREAS, The success of the State of New York, the strength of our
communities, and the vitality of American society depend, in great
measure, upon the dedication of young people such as Rachel Janish, who
use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and commitment to others,
Rachel Janish represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resources, our youth; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations,
with praise and pride, to honor Rachel Janish upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the President's Volunteer Service Award by
the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Rachel Janish.
