COMMENDING Kayla Yim upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Jewish
Community Relations Council at the Annual Holocaust
Remembrance Day Commemoration on April 27, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Kayla Yim upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Jewish Community Relations Council at the Annual
Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration to be held on Thursday, April
27, 2017, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York; and

WHEREAS, Holocaust Remembrance Day, known in Hebrew as Yom HaShoah,
is a day set aside for remembering the victims of the Holocaust and for
reminding New Yorkers, all Americans, and people around the world of
what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred and
indifference reign; and

WHEREAS, At this auspicious event, Kayla Yim will be recognized for
her diligent work in creating a more civil society for the citizens of
not only Nassau County, but the entire State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Kayla Yim, a student at Carle Place High School, in Carle
Place, New York, is a prime example of someone who exemplifies
tolerance, understanding and kindness in all facets of her life; she is
a dedicated, driven and humble young lady; and

WHEREAS, Kayla Yim's commitment to her school and peers are evident
in her active participation in various after-school activities such as:
Key Club (PR Rep), theatre productions, Chamber Orchestra, Math Honor
Society (Vice President), Tri-M Honor Society (Secretary), National
Honor Society, Math Team, Spanish Honor Society, Student Government
(Senior Class Secretary) and school newspaper (writer); however, she has
truly made her mark in the area of service learning; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary young woman has held leadership
positions within the Key Club since 2015, and has spent time
volunteering at the local Boys and Girls Club as well as the INN Soup
Kitchen; she also took part in the Anti-Bullying Walk and has delivered
toys to Winthrop University Hospital child life; and

WHEREAS, Kayla Yim has exercised technological creativity through
Key Club by making detailed informational videos for various
organizations, maintaining the club's website and creating informational
flyers for events/charities; these technology tools have been showcased
to the entire high school in order to promote fundraising and service
learning for organizations such as: the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,

SuperTy (Pediatric Cancer), Tuesday's Children, and the Colette Coyne
Melanoma Awareness Campaign (CCMAC); and

WHEREAS, Most recently, Kayla Yim helped organize Carle Place High
School's 2017 Battle of the Classes, Battling for a Cause which raised
over $28,000 for CCMAC; and

WHEREAS, Kayla Yim is a credit to her family, school, community, and
her State and Nation, and it is certain that her future will be filled
with accomplishments of equal importance; and

WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Kayla Yim represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kayla Yim upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Jewish Community Relations Council at the Annual
Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kayla Yim.
