HONORING Charles Engle upon the occasion of his
induction into the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes and coaches who have distinguished themselves
through their exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success
and the highest level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Charles Engle upon the occasion of his induction into the Greater Utica
Sports Hall of Fame, to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at
Daniele's Banquet Facility, New Hartford, New York; and
WHEREAS, Entering the Hall of Fame in the Coach or Manager Category,
Charles Engle has been coaching soccer at Mount Markham Central School
since 1968; and
WHEREAS, At the close of the 2016 season, Charles Engle has amassed
a record of 645-214-44, making him the winningest coach in New York
State in Boys' Soccer; and
WHEREAS, With his nearly 650 wins, Charles Engle currently ranks in
the top 15 of the winningest high school boys soccer coaches in the
country; he has had 42 winning seasons out of 48, has a .739 winning
percentage and has led his teams to five undefeated seasons in his
career; and
WHEREAS, Charles Engle's teams have secured 19 League Championships,
13 Sectional Championships, and six trips to the NYSPHAA State
Tournament where his team was a finalist in 1986; in addition, he
voluntarily served as the Section III Boys' Soccer Chairperson for 25
years and is a member of the New York State High School Soccer Coaches
Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized by all members of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Charles Engle upon the occasion of his induction into the Greater
Utica Sports Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Charles Engle.
