COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Alfred
State Nursing Program
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the proud and distinguished histories of exceptional
programs that are a part of the community and comprise the noble body of
this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Alfred State Nursing Program;
and
WHEREAS, The Alfred State Nursing Program was founded in 1965, and
developed following the model designed by Dr. Mildred Montag; the
Program was registered by the New York Education Department in 1965, and
received initial accreditation from the National League for Nursing in
1968; it has been registered and continually accredited ever since; and
WHEREAS, The Alfred State Nursing Program continues to have a
stellar reputation for providing quality nursing education, and is a key
provider of nurses to the local and surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, In 2010, a BS-N Program was created after SUNY encouraged
Alfred State to offer more four year degrees; the Program was offered
that same year and was accredited by the Commission on Collegiate
Nursing Education (CCNE) in 2012; that same year, Alfred State's Nursing
Program was chosen to participate in a pilot Dual Degree Program known
as Academic Progression in Nursing (APIN), under the Robert Woods
Johnson and Baccalaureate Degree; and
WHEREAS, In 2016, two part-time programs were developed further to
give educational access to those who were not able to reach their
education goals on a full-time basis; currently, the Alfred State
Nursing Program has five registered and accredited pathways to attain a
degree in nursing; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize and honor milestones in the history of communities large and
small in this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Alfred State Nursing Program;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Alfred State Nursing Program.
