COMMENDING Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, New
York, upon the occasion of receiving national
recognition for excellence in nursing from the
American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet
Recognition Program
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
extraordinary achievements of those individuals and organizations which
substantially contribute to the health and well-being of the people of
the Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, New York, upon the occasion
of receiving national recognition for excellence in nursing from the
American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program; and
WHEREAS, Magnet recognition reflects the highest standard of nursing
professionalism, collaboration and teamwork and distinguishes certain
hospitals as a premier designation for health care; to obtain this
illustrious status, hospitals have to go through a multi-year, rigorous,
voluntary application process; and
WHEREAS, Magnet organizations must show their nursing outcomes are
better than comparison national benchmarks in several dimensions,
including patient falls, hospital-acquired pressure ulcers and
infections, pain management and peripheral IV complications; they also
must exceed national benchmarks for patient and family satisfaction, as
well as nurse satisfaction; and
WHEREAS, With a focus on transformational leadership, structural
empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovations
and improvements, the Magnet Model supports outstanding patient
outcomes; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious recognition reflects the outstanding care
Kenmore Mercy Hospital provides and the quality patient outcomes; it
also demonstrates the commitment of every member of the hospital team
who works each and every day to assure excellence in patient care; and
WHEREAS, As the only Magnet-designated hospital in Western New York,
Kenmore Mercy Hospital joins a select community, as only 454 hospitals
worldwide have received this prestigious designation; and
WHEREAS, The Magnet recognition is the culmination of Kenmore Mercy
Hospital's continued commitment to nursing excellence, which is central
to how it serves its community; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of President and CEO, James
M. Millard, Kenmore Mercy Hospital has also received its seventh
consecutive A-rating from The Leapfrog Group, an industry watchdog who
collects and reports hospital performance to improve quality and safety,
and was named the only 2016 Top Hospital in New York State; and
WHEREAS, Kenmore Mercy Hospital and its expert staff, has had a long
and sustained commitment to the health and welfare of the citizens of
Buffalo, and therefore merits the highest commendation of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, New York, upon the occasion
of receiving national recognition for excellence in nursing from the
American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to James M. Millard, President and Chief Executive Officer,
Kenmore Mercy Hospital.
