HONORING Dr. Thomas Schumacher upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Clinician of
the Year Award by the Northeast Kidney Foundation

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals within the medical field who
distinguish themselves through professional excellence and who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life for the citizens in the
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dr. Thomas Schumacher upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Clinician of the Year Award by the Northeast Kidney Foundation,
to be celebrated at its 2017 Gift of Life Celebration on Thursday, May
11, 2017, at the Capital Center in Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Northeast Kidney Foundation is a voluntary health
organization dedicated to preventing kidney disease and enhancing the
lives of all those affected; formed in 1974 as a philanthropic gift of
Edwin and Rhonda Sperber, the Foundation provides services to patients,
family members, the general public and clinical and academic
professionals throughout the Northeast; and

WHEREAS, The mission of the Northeast Kidney Foundation is to
improve the quality of life of those affected by kidney disease and
related conditions throughout early identification, intervention,
prevention and support services; to promote organ donation; and to
empower those it serves to be an effective voice for better healthcare
at the local, state and federal levels; and

WHEREAS, A graduate of Siena College, Thomas Schumacher completed
medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and trained
in internal medicine at Berkshire Medical Center, and nephrology at
Nassau County Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Upon completing his training, Dr. Thomas Schumacher and his
family moved to the Albany area where he started working with Capital
District Renal Physicians; in addition, he served as the Chairman of the
Department of Nephrology at St. Clare's Hospital before it merged with
Ellis Family of Medicine; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Thomas Schumacher is the Division Chief of
Nephrology at Ellis Hospital and the Medical Director of Capital
District Dialysis Center; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he is a member of the Board of Directors and
Medical Advisory Board for the National Kidney Foundation, where he has
given much of his time to help raise funds for this auspicious
organization; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and
community service, a period of constructive involvement, Dr. Thomas
Schumacher has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend and
recognize those esteemed individuals within the medical community for
their extraordinary and sustained contributions to the progress of
medicine and the improvement of life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Thomas Schumacher upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Clinician of the Year Award by the Northeast Kidney
Foundation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Thomas Schumacher.
