Senate Resolution No. 2085

HONORING Police Sergeant Matthew R. Erwin upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2017
Public Service Award by the New York State Moose
Association

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality of life in the communities across this great State of New
York is enriched by the diligence and compassionate commitment of those
individuals whose singular purpose is the care and welfare of others;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Ogdensburg Police Sergeant Matthew R. Erwin upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2017 Public Service Award by the New
York State Moose Association; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Moose Association encourages a broader
interest in sports, family activities and participation in community
service programs; and

WHEREAS, The Public Service Award is the New York State Moose
Association's highest honor; every year, more than 60 lodges submit
nominees to receive this esteemed award; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Matthew R. Erwin received this distinguished award
for his bravery and his exemplary service as a police officer serving
his community; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Matthew R. Erwin is credited with saving the life
of a woman who had fallen and was at risk of drowning in the Oswegatchie
River in September of 2016; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Matthew R. Erwin responded to the emergency by
swimming to the woman and pulling her to safety; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Erwin is a true reflection of professionalism in
law enforcement and a credit to his department his community and his
family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Police Sergeant Matthew R. Erwin upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2017 Public Service Award by the New
York State Moose Association; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Police Sergeant Matthew R. Erwin.
