HONORING Peter Tufano upon the occasion of his
induction into the Monticello High School Hall of
Distinction Class of 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Peter Tufano upon the occasion of his induction into the Monticello High
School Hall of Distinction Class of 2016; this momentous occasion was
celebrated on Friday, November 4, 2016, at the Arnold Packer Hughs
Auditorium in Monticello High School; and
WHEREAS, Peter Tufano is Dean and Professor of Finance at Sold
Business School, as well as a Professorial Fellow at Bethel College,
University of Oxford, where he championed the concept of a business
school embedded within the University; and
WHEREAS, A prolific scholar, Peter Tufano serves as a course
developer, seasoned academic leader, social entrepreneur, and an adviser
to business and government leaders; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Peter Tufano founded and currently chairs the
Doorways to Dreams Fund, a non-profit organization which works with
partners to help low income households successfully manage their
financial needs; and
WHEREAS, Peter Tufano's research on consumer finance and the work of
Doorways to Dreams Fund was instrumental in the passage of the American
Savings Promotion Act in December of 2014, which removed federal
barriers to the sale of prize linked savings products in the United
States; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining Oxford, Peter Tufano served as a faculty
member at the Harvard Business School for 22 years; during this time, he
assumed a number of leadership roles, serving as department chair,
course head, and Senior Associate Dean; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he oversaw the school's tenure and promotion
processes, its campus planning, and advised the University on financial
and real estate matters; he was also the founding co-chair of the
Harvard Innovation Lab, a cross-university initiative to foster
entrepreneurship; and
WHEREAS, A 1975 graduate of Monticello High School, Peter Tufano
earned his AB in economics summa cum laude, as well as his MBA with high
distinction and Ph.D. in Business Economics at Harvard University; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Peter Tufano has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Peter Tufano has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records this tribute to
Peter Tufano, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Peter Tufano upon the occasion of his induction into the
Monticello High School Hall of Distinction Class of 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Peter Tufano.
