HONORING Prisco DeAngelis upon the occasion of his
designation as Grand Marshal of Brooklyn's 150th
Kings County Memorial Day Parade

WHEREAS, Each and every city, town, village and hamlet within its
borders resonates with the rich and noble history of New York State and
this nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend events which symbolize the historical, social and cultural
development of this great State and embody the spirit of the principles
upon which this nation was founded, and to applaud individuals who have
dedicated their life's work in support and furtherance of those
principles; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Prisco DeAngelis upon the occasion of his designation as Grand Marshal
of Brooklyn's 150th Kings County Memorial Day Parade; and

WHEREAS, On Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday of
the month of May, we honor those Americans who gave their lives in
defense of their country, whether in the Civil War which divided our
nation or in times of war since that time, and in times of peace, in
police actions and minor skirmishes, in peacekeeping roles and in
missions to foreign lands to uphold the cherished principles of liberty
and democracy upon which our grand Republic was founded; and

WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Grand Marshal of the Kings County
Memorial Day Parade, Prisco DeAngelis proudly served his country with
the 7th Infantry Division - 32nd Infantry Regiment of the United States
Army during the Korean War; for his meritorious service, he was the
recipient of two Purple Heart Medals; he was honorably discharged with
the rank of Staff Sergeant; and

WHEREAS, After returning to the United States, Prisco DeAngelis held
the position of supervisor for Detecto Scales; after 15 years of
service, he worked for the Daily News for 17 years until his retirement;
and

WHEREAS, Prisco DeAngelis is an active member of several Veteran
Service Organizations; he joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars William P.
Mooney Post 2652 in 1958, and became a Life member in 1966; throughout
the years, he served as the Post Commander several times; and

WHEREAS, In 1973, Prisco DeAngelis became a member of the Michael A.
Rawley, Jr. American Legion Post 1636, and once again, held the position
of commander for many terms; in 1976, he joined the American Legion
Color Guard, where he is still an active participant; and

WHEREAS, Prisco DeAngelis was also involved with the Society of the
Forty and Eight where he served as both the Grand Chef and Chef De Gare;
from 1997-1998, he held the title of American Legion Kings County

Commander, and from 2010-2011, he was the American Legion Department of
New York Vice Commander; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Prisco DeAngelis holds the title of President of
the United Military Veterans of Kings County, Inc., a non-profit
Veterans organization; he also serves as the President of the Kings
County Memorial Day Parade Committee, the proud sponsor of Brooklyn's
150th Memorial Day Parade; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of over 60 years,
Ruth DeAngelis; their two children, Peter and Catherine; and their four
grandchildren, Nicholas, Robert, Danielle, and Anthony; as well as their
four great-grandchildren, Michael, Keira, Eva Marie and Jimmy, all of
whom have shown him love and support and rejoice in his many
achievements; and

WHEREAS, As we observe and remember our deceased veterans on
Memorial Day, we recall their brave and noble deeds which have served to
maintain our most precious and cherished freedoms and honor those who
continue to work diligently to support and sustain them; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Prisco DeAngelis upon the occasion of his designation as Grand
Marshal of Brooklyn's 150th Kings County Memorial Day Parade; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Prisco DeAngelis.
