HONORING Mare's Wares Arts Fest upon the occasion
of its designation as recipient of the 2017 Best
Destination Marketing Initiative Award by the St.
Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize
that the quality and character of life in the communities across New
York State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of
those organizations and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Mare's Wares Arts Fest upon the occasion of its designation as recipient
of the 2017 Best Destination Marketing Initiative Award by the St.
Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce which was celebrated at its Tourism
Awards Dinner on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the River Road Restaurant,
located at the Massena Country Club in Massena, New York; and

WHEREAS, The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce has served the
businesses and communities of St. Lawrence County since 1965 with
programs and services designed to foster strong economic growth and make
the county a great place to live and work; and

WHEREAS, Since 2008, Mare's Wares Arts Fest has been presenting a
day of arts and entertainment to celebrate the arts in its many forms
including: music, artisans of all types and their wares, wine, beer and
distiller tastings, gourmet food, farmers, authors, body workers, and
theater groups; and

WHEREAS, In its ninth year, this free event continues to grow larger
every year, and includes vendors who create what they sell, have won
awards, have their work displayed in shops and galleries and been
recognized in periodicals, and many of whom make a living from their
work; and

WHEREAS, Mare's Wares Arts Fest has become a well-known artistic,
cultural, and educational institution, appealing to an audience of all
ages from both the United States and Canada; and

WHEREAS, Mare's Wares Arts Fest showcases live music, children's
activities, and educational demonstrations, in addition to the varied
high quality work from well-known and well-respected artisans from the
North Country and beyond; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mare's Wares Arts Fest upon the occasion of its designation as

recipient of the 2017 Best Destination Marketing Initiative Award by the
St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mary Ann Evans of Mare's Wares Arts Fest.
