COMMENDING Gabrielle Garcia upon the occasion of
being named America's Next Top Young Entrepreneur by
the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Program
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Gabrielle Garcia upon the occasion of being named America's Next
Top Young Entrepreneur by the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!)
Program, at a Competition on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Rochester
Institute of Technology, in Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Program encourages
students to generate business ideas, conduct market research, write
business plans, pitch to a panel of investors and launch and run their
own businesses or social movements; and
WHEREAS, The YEA! Program evokes the spirit of entrepreneurship and
introduces youth to skills they can use for their entire lives; the
Staten Island YEA! Program, the only one in New York City, is an annual
30-week extracurricular program organized by the Staten Island Chamber
of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Through participation in the Staten Island YEA! Program,
Gabrielle Garcia, a junior at Staten Island Technical High School,
created her product, Stench Snipers, an insert to deodorize and sanitize
her smelly, sweaty hockey gloves; and
WHEREAS, Upon winning the local Staten Island Competition in April
of 2017, Gabrielle Garcia then traveled to Rochester to compete on May
5, 2017, against 92 students from 35 states who represented 76
businesses from YEA! Programs across the country; and
WHEREAS, At the national competition, Gabrielle Garcia donned her
hockey gear and began her business pitch by telling potential investors,
"I smell really bad,"; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her parents, Dianne and Gabe
Garcia, and her brother Philip, who have all shown her love and support
and rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and
appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers,
mentors and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Gabrielle Garcia upon the occasion of being named America's Next
Top Young Entrepreneur by the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!)
Program; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gabrielle Garcia.
