HONORING Jared Willard upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Life Saving Award by
the Town of Bethlehem

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jared
Willard upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Life
Saving Award by the Town of Bethlehem, celebrated at a Ceremony on
Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Town of Bethlehem Court, in Delmar, New
York; and

WHEREAS, The Town of Bethlehem honored eight police department
members for outstanding service in recognition of Police Week in
conjunction with National Police Week; Jared Willard was awarded for
assisting in saving a life; and

WHEREAS, The Life Saving Award is bestowed upon an individual for an
act performed in the line of duty, which through disregard of personal
safety or prompt and alert action, resulted in the saving of a life; and

WHEREAS, On Monday, June 13, 2016, the Bethlehem Police Department
received a report of a woman who collapsed in Delmar, New York; thinking
quickly, telecommunicator Jared Willard provided emergency medical
information to the caller, a passerby, who began CPR; upon arrival of
Delmar-Bethlehem EMS and Albany County paramedics, CPR was continued and
the woman regained a pulse and spontaneous respirations on the scene;
and

WHEREAS, If not for Jared Willard's calm technique and clear set of
instructions, the promptness of quick CPR would not have been possible
and the outcome of the situation would have been much different; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jared Willard upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Life Saving Award by the Town of Bethlehem; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jared Willard.
