CONGRATULATING student-athlete Mitchell Smith upon
the occasion of being named the 2017 Prep Talk
Player of the Year for Boys Golf

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize our
young individuals, who strive for athletic and academic excellence
through rigorous training and mental and physical discipline; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate student-athlete Mitchell Smith upon the occasion of being
named the 2017 Prep Talk Player of the Year for Boys Golf, to be
celebrated at its Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the
Hyatt Regency Buffalo Hotel and Conference Center in Buffalo, New York;
and

WHEREAS, An integral part of the Orchard Park High School Boys Golf
Team, senior Mitchell Smith has displayed tremendous hard work,
outstanding athletic skill, and exemplary sportsmanship to receive this
prestigious honor; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Smith capped an outstanding season by taking part
in the New York State tournament, in Long Island; and

WHEREAS, This incredibly talented athlete averaged 36 for his high
school season, the best nine-hole score in ECIC rankings; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Mitchell Smith plans to major in finance
and data science at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Mitchell Smith has clearly made a contribution
to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate student-athlete Mitchell Smith upon the occasion of being
named the 2017 Prep Talk Player of the Year for Boys Golf, and to wish
him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mitchell Smith.
