HONORING Philomena Mary Cammuso posthumously upon
the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2017 Seneca Falls Convention Days Community Service
Award on July 13, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character who inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State
with their strong contributions to the community and model citizenship;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Philomena Mary Cammuso posthumously upon the occasion of her designation
as recipient of the 2017 Seneca Falls Convention Days Community Service
Award, to be celebrated at the award presentation ceremony and reception
on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Gould Hotel in Seneca Falls, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Philomena M. Cammuso was born on May 15, 1939, to Anthony
and Adeline Vinciquerra Cammuso in Seneca Falls, New York; and

WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Seneca Falls, Philomena M. Cammuso
graduated from Mynderse Academy in 1957; three years later, she received
her Registered Nurse degree from Saint Joseph's School of Nursing in
Elmira, New York; and

WHEREAS, Philomena M. Cammuso began her 25-year career as a
registered nurse at Geneva General Hospital, where she served in various
management positions; during this time, she earned both her Bachelor of
Science and Master's degree in Education from Elmira College; always
striving to learn more, she also holds a Master's degree in Management
from the New School of Social Research; and

WHEREAS, After graduating in 1985, Philomena M. Cammuso became an
Instructor of Nursing at the Community College of the Finger Lakes in
Canandaigua, New York, as well as the Board of Cooperative Education
Services in Stanley, New York; and

WHEREAS, From 1986-2002, Philomena M. Cammuso served in various
management roles at Clifton Springs Hospital including Vice-President of
Nursing, Director of Education, Social Work, Utilization Services, and
the Emergency Room; she also held the position of Risk Manager and
Corporate Compliance Officer until her retirement in early 2002; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her rich and productive life, Philomena M.
Cammuso was a very active member of the community where she lived,
worked and played; she was a vital member of Saint Patrick's Parish
Council, the National Women's Hall of Fame, Saint Anthony's Commission,
Seneca County Children's Committee, the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs of
Seneca Falls, Board of Directors of the American Heart Association of
the Finger Lakes, National Business and Professional Women's

Association, and the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Advisory
Board; and

WHEREAS, A natural leader, Philomena M. Cammuso held the position of
President of several organizations such as the S.M.S. Auxiliary, the
Birthright of Seneca County, and the Seneca Falls Historical Society,
where she also served as its Director; and

WHEREAS, For her steadfast and unremitting commitment to the village
of Seneca Falls, Philomena M. Cammuso was the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades including: the Father Beatini Award, and the 2002
Woman of the Year Award by the Women's History Month Coalition, in
addition to being selected as the 2012 Kiwanis Guest of Honor; and

WHEREAS, When she was not working or helping someone, Philomena M.
Cammuso enjoyed spending time with her beloved family; she enjoys
traveling with her nieces and relished a good meal with her many
friends; and

WHEREAS, Philomena Mary Cammuso of Clinton Street, Seneca Falls,
passed away on April 15, 2017, at the age of 77; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by her two brothers, Lawrence and Anthony
Cammuso; one sister, Anna Lucy Scheltz; and brother-in-law, Ronald J.
Tiballi, Philomena Mary Cammuso is survived by her sister, Rose
Cammuso-Tiballi; one brother-in-law, Timothy Scheltz; three nieces, Lisa
(Randy) Mitchell, Kimberly (Sean) Murphy, and Toni Marie Tiballi; two
great-nephews, Owen and Eamon Murphy; a great-niece, Leslie (Paul)
Plucinik; one great-great niece, Loren Plucinik; and many aunts, uncles,
and cousins, as well as her "Lunch Bunch Friends"; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Philomena Mary Cammuso posthumously upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2017 Seneca Falls Convention Days
Community Service Award on July 13, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Philomena Mary Cammuso.
