COMMENDING General Electric upon the occasion of
celebrating its 125th Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those
businesses within the State of New York which distinguish themselves
through outstanding professional behavior and enduring commitment to the
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend General Electric upon the occasion of celebrating its 125th
Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, General Electric was formed through the 1892 merger of
Edison General Electric Company of Schenectady, New York, and
Thomson-Houston Electric Company of Lynn, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, In 1896, General Electric was one of the original 12
companies listed on the Dow Jones Industrial Average; it is the only
original company still listed on the Dow index; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, General Electric has been inventing
and manufacturing the things that power the world, move the world and
heal the world; and
WHEREAS, General Electric employs more than 8,000 New Yorkers and
has an annual economic impact of more than four billion dollars in the
Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, General Electric has an annual economic impact
of more than one billion dollars in Schenectady County; and
WHEREAS, General Electric and its employees gives tirelessly of
their time, energy and support to numerous charitable organizations
throughout the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, General Electric has sponsored many assistance programs to
help local children excel in areas of education such as STEM related
programs and activities, Junior Achievement, Science Bowl, Girls Inc.,
mentoring programs and internships with local community colleges; and
WHEREAS, General Electric invested significant funds for the
"Brilliant Career Mobile Technology Lab" for the Schenectady School
District in 2017; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges General Electric's success, recognizes its contributions to
the local and State economies, and extends its highest commendation to
the corporation and its employees, fully confident that, in its future,
it will enjoy the same success which has so characterized its past; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend General Electric upon the occasion of celebrating its 125th
Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to General Electric.
