HONORING Susan Taylor upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Advancement of Women
in the WERCplace Award by the Capital District
Women's Employment & Resource Center on October 3,
2017
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the communities across
New York State is reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of
those organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the
advancement of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Susan Taylor
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Advancement of
Women in the WERCplace Award by the Capital District Women's Employment
& Resource Center, to be celebrated at its 13th Annual Awards Luncheon
on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Troy, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The Women's Employment & Resource Center (WERC) is a
not-for-profit organization which assists women in improving significant
self-attributes in order to successfully rejoin the workforce; each
year, this vital organization provides services to at least 300 women in
the Capital District; and
WHEREAS, Susan Taylor is being honored with this auspicious award in
recognition of her long-standing efforts to remove barriers that keep
women from achieving financial independence and success; and
WHEREAS, An educator for 30 years, Susan Taylor began her
illustrious career with a private child care center and Head Start
programs before she began her work with Equinox, Inc. in 2002; and
WHEREAS, In 2006, Susan Taylor became the manager of Great Finds
Thrift Boutique, a thrift store through Equinox which provides a setting
for retail and soft skills training to individuals with a mental health
diagnosis; and
WHEREAS, Susan Taylor has brought her passion for teaching to this
new position, supporting learning and success for adults; in this
capacity she oversees the retail thrift business operations and creates
a welcoming atmosphere where customers can enjoy a boutique shopping
experience while coordinating the daily activities of volunteers; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Susan Taylor has been instrumental in developing community
partnerships with such organizations as WERC, providing clothing to
women in need; and
WHEREAS, Susan Taylor earned an Associate of Applied Science degree
in Early Childhood Education from Hudson Valley Community College and
completed coursework at The College of Saint Rose and The Sage Colleges;
she also holds a certificate in Web Design from New Horizons Computer
Learning Center; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Susan Taylor has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Susan Taylor, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Susan Taylor upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Advancement of Women in the WERCplace Award by the Capital District
Women's Employment & Resource Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Susan Taylor.
