COMMENDING the SUNY College and Career Counseling
Center at Schenectady upon the occasion of
commemorating 40 years of Heart Work and providing
opportunities to Capital District residents

WHEREAS, Those individuals and institutions devoted to improving the
quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and
self-worth, are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the SUNY
College and Career Counseling Center at Schenectady upon the occasion of
commemorating 40 years of Heart Work and providing opportunities to
Capital District residents to be feted at its Anniversary Heart Work
Celebration on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at the Glen Sanders Mansion
in Scotia, New York; and

WHEREAS, From time to time, society calls upon these individuals and
institutions to be recognized for the significance of their
contributions and efforts to assist others in developing the skills
necessary to be successful citizens; and

WHEREAS, New York State has recognized for many years the importance
of a quality educational system and its relationship to the economic and
social well-being of all its citizens; an important part of every school
curriculum should be a thorough, comprehensive preparatory program that
aids students in the process of career selection; and

WHEREAS, Excellent school systems attempt to maximize all available
resources to prepare students for vital contributing roles as citizens
of this Nation; New York schools continually strive for improvement in
their programs and services; and

WHEREAS, Schenectady County Community College's Outreach Counseling
Program began in November of 1977 with the hiring of a
Counselor/Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant; the main office
for the Outreach Counseling Program was located in the SETA Building at
240 Broadway in downtown Schenectady; and

WHEREAS, In 1987, the Schenectady County Community College Outreach
Counseling Program was re-named, The SUNY College and Career Counseling
Center at Schenectady to better reflect the broad range of services
offered by the Center; and

WHEREAS, For 40 years, The SUNY College and Career Counseling Center
(SUNY CCCC) at Schenectady has facilitated a neutral and supportive link
between low income, educationally bypassed residents of Schenectady
County and across the Capital District by providing services, mentoring,
and support for individuals to gain economic self-sufficiency; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, SUNY CCCC has served thousands of
community residents in Schenectady County and across the Capital
District by placing them in post-secondary, employment, and career and
technical educational opportunities; and


WHEREAS, For purposes of outreach, recruitment, and placement, SUNY
CCCC has continuously maintained strong relationships with hundreds of
area Schenectady County and Capital District agencies and organizations,
businesses, and educational institutions; and

WHEREAS, Since March of 2013, SUNY CCCC has been located on the
First Floor of Center City with state of the art facilities and
technology to meet the needs of preparing its participants with the
tools to meet the employment and educational demands of the 21st
Century; and

WHEREAS, After four decades of service to its community, SUNY CCCC
remains true to its core mission and has expanded its programs to meet
the needs of more and more people; some of its programs include:
assistance with the college application process; career/educational
advising; career, college and community agency fairs; community
resources and referrals; financial literacy programs; high school
equivalency referral services; individuals cover letter and resume
preparation assistance; job leads and vacancy listings; mentoring and
personal development; on-line skills connections; and an opportunity
room which provides computers and other resources for job and
educational searches, preparing resumes, and applying to colleges; and

WHEREAS, The success of SUNY CCCC is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its staff and volunteers, whose involvement is, and always
has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the SUNY College and Career Counseling Center at Schenectady
upon the occasion of commemorating 40 years of Heart Work and providing
opportunities to Capital District residents; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the SUNY College and Career Counseling Center at
Schenectady.
