MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
February 5-11, 2018, as Nonprofit Infrastructure
Week in the State of New York
WHEREAS, Nonprofit human services organizations are critical to the
health, safety, and overall well-being of New York's communities; and
WHEREAS, The nonprofit sector is an economic engine, employing
roughly 18 percent of the State's workforce; and
WHEREAS, The nonprofit human services sector is on the frontline in
the fight against poverty and the promotion of equitable development;
and
WHEREAS, The cost of doing business has risen sharply over the past
decade, while funding of the nonprofit human services sector has
remained stagnant during that time; and
WHEREAS, The rising cost of living has resulted in increased demand
for human services; and
WHEREAS, Many nonprofit organizations need to repair or replace
infrastructure such as heating, cooling, plumbing, sprinkler systems,
accessibility, security, and technology; and
WHEREAS, Research has shown that organizations with robust
infrastructure are more likely to provide high-quality programs and to
succeed during uncertain financial times; and
WHEREAS, The State is transitioning to a value-based health care
model that emphasizes positive health outcomes; and
WHEREAS, Nonprofit human services providers have been effective in
addressing social determinants of health, which are key to obtaining
better, more sustainable health outcomes; and
WHEREAS, Reinforcing and upgrading New York's nonprofit human
services infrastructure is important to the success of nonprofits
generally and in top value-based health care system; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim February 5-11, 2018, as
Nonprofit Infrastructure Week in the State of New York, in conjunction
with the observance of National Nonprofit Infrastructure Week; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
