MOURNING the death of Howard S. Finkelstein,
family man, noted attorney, and devoted member of
his community

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate
their lives and careers to the service of others; and

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Howard S. Finkelstein of Newburgh, New York,
a preeminent citizen whose distinguished public service and caring
commitment will long serve as a standard to which others might aspire;
and

WHEREAS, Howard S. Finkelstein died on Wednesday, December 27, 2017,
at the age of 84; and

WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, Howard S. Finkelstein attended
Tilden High School; after graduating, he proudly served his country as a
member of the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, After his discharge, Howard S. Finkelstein attended
Brooklyn Law School; in 1961, he began practicing law in Newburgh,
eventually founding the law firm that is now known as Finkelstein &
Partners; after more than three decades of service, he officially
retired in 1992; and

WHEREAS, An accomplished attorney known for his quiet passion and
fairness, Howard S. Finkelstein dedicated his professional career to
helping others in need by serving as President of both the Greater
Newburgh Bar Association and Orange County Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Howard S. Finkelstein was a vital member of
the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association,
the Advisory Board of the Bank of New York, and Brooklyn Law School's
President's Advisory Council; and

WHEREAS, Proud of his Jewish heritage, Howard S. Finkelstein held
the title of President of B'nai B'rith International; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his first wife, Diane, Howard S. Finkelstein
is survived by his wife, Lola; three sons, Joel (Bonna), Ronald, and
Andrew (Lisa); two stepdaughters, Deena (Pete) and Corrine (Dennis);
seven grandchildren, Alex, Doug, Max, Jesse, Zoe, Sydney, and Emma;
three step-grandchildren, Jake, Aidan, and Riley; one brother, Jay
(Linda); one sister, Ellen (Harvey); brother-in-law, Arnold Pearlstone;
and many nieces and nephews, as well as a legion of friends and
colleagues; and

WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, respected as a
pillar of the Finkelstein family, Howard's name is synonymous with
character, dignity, intellect, depth, and humor, qualities evident to

his family and to all those who were fortunate enough to have known him;
he will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Howard S. Finkelstein, family man, noted attorney,
and devoted member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Howard S. Finkelstein.
