MOURNING the death of Irv Weinstein, longtime
television news anchor in Buffalo, New York, and
devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the
memory of cherished citizens of the State of New York who distinguished
themselves in their profession and whose talent, wit, charm, intellect
and unique personality permeated all they did; and

WHEREAS, Irv Weinstein, a native of Western New York, died on
Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at the age of 87; and

WHEREAS, At the young age of 15, Irv Weinstein began his illustrious
broadcasting career at WHAM in Rochester, New York; after high school,
he attended the School of Radio and TV Technique in New York City; and

WHEREAS, After graduating, Irv Weinstein held jobs in Iowa and West
Virginia before returning to Western New York to serve as Newscaster and
News Director at WKBW-AM in 1958; and

WHEREAS, In 1964, Irv Weinstein moved from radio to television when
he assumed the positions of both Anchor and News Director at WKBW-TV;
after more than three decades of service, he retired as the oldest
anchor in television on December 31, 1998, a day that was proclaimed
"Irv Weinstein Day" in Erie County; and

WHEREAS, Known as the King of Local Television News, Irv Weinstein
will be remembered by his loyal fans and fellow broadcasters for his
rapid-fire delivery and famous alliteration; through his amazing spirit
and valuable skills as an anchor, he was instrumental in bringing
Channel 7 news from its No. 3 rating to No. 1 for about 24 years; and

WHEREAS, A compassionate and benevolent man, Irv Weinstein touched
many with his generosity through his work with The Variety Club and
numerous other charitable groups; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
profession, Irv Weinstein was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters
Hall of Fame in 1998, and the New York State Broadcasters Association in
2006; and

WHEREAS, Irv Weinstein is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; two
devoted daughters, Beth Krom and Rachel Lloyd; one cherished son, Marc;
and three treasured grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, An inspiration to many, it is the intent of this
Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records this tribute to the memory
of Irv Weinstein, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he was held; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate and pay tribute to the life of Irv Weinstein, whose legendary

talent entertained audiences for several decades; he will be greatly
missed by his family, friends, colleagues and fans across Western New
York and the Nation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Irv Weinstein.
