MOURNING the death of John A. Nuzback, former Fire
Chief, distinguished citizen and devoted member of
his community

WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of John A. Nuzback on Saturday,
July 22, 2017, noting the significance of his purposeful life and
accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Schenectady, New York, John A. Nuzback
graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1968, before honorably
serving his country as a member of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service in 1971, John
A. Nuzback was employed at Ellis Hospital and later with Schenectady
and Mohawk Ambulance; and

WHEREAS, John A. Nuzback began his exemplary firefighting career
with Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL); after 25 years of valuable
service, he retired in 2005 with the esteemed rank of Fire Chief; and

WHEREAS, Following his retirement from KAPL, John A. Nuzback served
as the Schenectady County Fire Coordinator, retiring in 2015 to take on
the role of Chief Deputy of the Schenectady County Fire Investigation
Team; he is credited with more than doubling the team of fire
investigators; and

WHEREAS, In addition, John A. Nuzback was a New York State EMT
instructor for 26 years and trained countless people in basic and
recertification courses; he was also a DJ at weddings and other events;
and

WHEREAS, For three decades, John A. Nuzback served the Carman Fire
Department in several capacities including life member, chief, and fire
commissioner; and

WHEREAS, John A. Nuzback distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; he was the Chief Investigator of the Schenectady County
Fire Investigation Team, as well as a member of the Capital District
Fire Investigators Association, International Association of Fire
Investigators, New York State Association of Fire Investigators, New
York State Association of Fire Chiefs, Rotterdam EMS, and Rotterdam
Elks; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, John A. Nuzback was instrumental in combining
White Eagle and Rotterdam Ambulance into Rotterdam EMS, and keeping this
vital organization in the Town of Rotterdam; and

WHEREAS, With a passion for firefighting, John A. Nuzback took great
pride in his state and national certification as a Fire Investigator; he
had a truly humble spirit and loved nothing more than spending time with
his family and friends; and


WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
John A. Nuzback was such a firefighter; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his years of devoted service, John A. Nuzback
heroically performed, above and beyond the call of duty, those
responsibilities which define the task of fire protection; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, John S. Nuzback and Mary
Farrell Nuzback; his brother, Thomas P. Nuzback; and his father and
mother-in-law, Gerald and Alice Stone, John A. Nuzback is survived by
his beloved wife, Linda Stone Nuzback; three children, Kristen (Brian)
Shoemaker, Amy Nuzback and John (Lynn) Nuzback; four grandchildren, John
Jr. "JJ" and Reagan Nuzback and Brady and Kyle Shoemaker; brother,
Joseph Nuzback; sisters, Maureen (Don) Bekkering and Anne-Pat Nuzback;
and brothers-in-law, Bill (Cheryl) Stone and Bob (Ellen) Stone; as well
as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, John A. Nuzback leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of John A. Nuzback, former Fire Chief, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of John A. Nuzback.
