COMMENDING Town Historian William A. Cormier upon
the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Salem community on August 12,
2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who seek to bring recognition to historical
places within the State of New York, and in doing so, help to ensure
that the complete history of our State and Nation is preserved and
shared with present generations of citizens; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Town Historian William A. Cormier upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Salem community, was held
with a Garden Party held in his honor on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at
the Georgi on the Battenkill in Shushan, New York; and

WHEREAS, William "Al" Cormier has rendered faithful, conscientious
and valuable service as Historian for both the Town and the Village of
Salem; this esteemed man brought to his position an abiding commitment
to his community, a background rich in experience, and a deep love of
history that began long before his appointment as Town Historian; and

WHEREAS, Al Cormier's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Al Cormier is a member of the
Salem Rotary Club and Holy Cross Church Council; in addition, he has
held numerous positions including educator, school administrator,
author, lecturer, living-history re-enactor and grant writer; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his long and illuminating career, Al Cormier has
highlighted local history and has delighted in sharing his vast
knowledge with both young and old; he continues to be an invaluable
resource for anyone with a desire to know more about the history of the
Town of Salem and its surrounding communities; and

WHEREAS, As Town Historian, Al Cormier has earned the appreciation,
recognition and thanks of all those whose lives he has touched; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Town Historian William A. Cormier upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Salem community on August 12,
2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Town Historian William A. Cormier.
