COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Jewish
Federation of Central New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
organizations within our midst, which have demonstrated consistent
excellence while bringing pride and enjoyment to the citizens of our
great State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Jewish Federation of Central
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Jewish Federation of Central New York is a
comprehensive communal organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing
Jewish life throughout Central New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1918, the Jewish Federation of Central New
York strives to build community and ensure the continuity of Jewish life
by encouraging the participation of all Jewish residents in activities
offered by the Federation's family of agencies, area synagogues and
other Jewish organizations and institutions; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of President/CEO Michael Balanoff, the
Jewish Federation of Central New York is a 501 (c) 3 organization, where
philanthropy, volunteerism and commitment come together to help make a
difference on the local, state and national levels; and
WHEREAS, Each year, funds raised by the Jewish Federation of Central
New York are allocated to local beneficiary agencies to support the
services and programs that they provide to members of the Greater
Syracuse community; additionally, there are national, Israeli and global
Jewish needs that also can be addressed each year through such funds;
and
WHEREAS, On Super Sunday, an annual event often held in January,
more than 100 volunteers through the Jewish Federation of Central New
York reach out to local families to speak with them about their pledge
to the Annual Campaign; and
WHEREAS, The Jewish Federation of Central New York is a member of
the Jewish Federation of North America (JFNA), which represents 157
Jewish Federations and 400 independent communities across North
American, raising and distributing more than $3 billion annually for
social welfare, social services and educational needs; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Jewish Federation of Central
New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michael Balanoff, President/CEO, Jewish Federation of
Central New York.
