HONORING Jeff Ricker in recognition of his prompt
and heroic actions in rescuing an elderly man from a
house fire

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, remaining calm
under pressure, in an effort to preserve the life of another; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jeff Ricker in recognition of his prompt and heroic actions in rescuing
an elderly man from a house fire; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Ricker was driving on Highland Avenue in the Village
of Florida on Friday, January 12, 2018, when he spotted smoke and flames
coming from a house; and

WHEREAS, A 26-year veteran of the Unionville Fire Department, Jeff
Ricker immediately dialed 911 and went to investigate; after observing a
vehicle parked in the driveway behind the house, his years of experience
told him whoever lived in the home used the back door; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Ricker then observed an elderly man through a window
at the back of the house; he was trapped behind a fallen door and a wall
of flame was raging in the house behind him; and

WHEREAS, Without hesitation or regard for his own safety, Jeff
Ricker pushed in a window, grabbed the 92-year-old man by the shoulders,
pulled him through the window and carried him 75 feet to the street,
saving his life; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Ricker should be regarded as a true hero; he has
continually devoted himself to public service, demonstrating great
courage and diligence in providing for the care and welfare of the
citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Praised for maintaining his composure and his professional
conduct, Jeff Ricker demonstrated his true character and genuine
compassion for the well-being of others; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; Jeff Ricker is
one such individual; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Ricker through his spontaneous and heroic actions,
demonstrated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern of
ordinary citizens across the community of the State of New York who
voluntarily respond when others are in need of help; now, therefore, be
it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jeff Ricker in recognition of his prompt and heroic actions in
rescuing an elderly man from a house fire; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jeff Ricker.
