COMMENDING The Honorable George L. Cooke
posthumously upon the occasion of his induction into
the Monticello High School Hall of Distinction Class
of 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals who distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend The Honorable George L. Cooke posthumously upon the occasion of
his induction into the Monticello High School Hall of Distinction Class
of 2017; this momentous occasion was celebrated on Friday, November 3,
2017, at the Arnold Packer Hughs Auditorium in Monticello High School;
and

WHEREAS, A member of the Monticello High School Class of 1895, Judge
George L. Cooke was an outstanding example of a self-made man; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as Sullivan County Judge, George L. Cooke
served with loyalty, honor and distinction, was governed by a keen sense
of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in his
official acts; and

WHEREAS, Judge George L. Cooke was known among his colleagues and in
his community to be fair and scrupulously conscientious, having the
utmost respect for the position he held; and

WHEREAS, Through his work addressing legal issues that make a
significant impact on the quality of life within a community, Judge
George L. Cooke contributed countless hours to the betterment of his
community; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to the legal community, Judge George L. Cooke was a
member of both the State Bar Association and New York State Committee on
Children's Court; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his role as Judge, George L. Cooke also
served as a teacher, and the Director of the National Union Bank; he was
a vital participant of many community organizations including the Boy
Scouts, Monticello Fire Department, and Child's Aid Society; he also
held the title of 4th Degree Officer in the Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Judge George L. Cooke stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; to honor his legacy of fairness and
steadfast commitment, the elementary school was named after him; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Judge George L. Cooke
displayed throughout his life; and


WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who displayed their commitment to
the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent of this
Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records this tribute to Judge
George L. Cooke, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Honorable George L. Cooke upon the occasion of his induction
into the Monticello High School Hall of Distinction Class of 2017; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of The Honorable George L. Cooke.
