COMMENDING Gregory S. McGuinness upon the occasion
of his designation as Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Gregory S. McGuinness upon the occasion of his designation as
Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and

WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment,
Gregory S. McGuinness will march as Deputy Marshal of the 25th Annual
Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade down 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn, New
York, on Sunday, March 25, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade is meant to
recognize and celebrate Irish culture, heritage and pride, for those who
have emigrated here from the Emerald Isle, the Irish-American community,
as well as those who are Irish in spirit; and

WHEREAS, An American-Irish Catholic from Rockaway, Brooklyn, Gregory
S. McGuinness was a student at St. Francis de Sales School and Xavier
High School; after graduating from Boston College, he served as an
accountant, and eventually became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA);
and

WHEREAS, Sixteen years ago, Gregory S. McGuinness decided to pursue
his lifelong dream of becoming a New York City Firefighter; today, he
holds the rank of Lieutenant in Ladder Company 114 in Sunset Park, and
is a member of the FDNY Emerald Society; and

WHEREAS, During this time, Gregory S. McGuinness furthered his
education by earning his Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 2006;
one year later, he was admitted to the New York State Bar, and is a
member of its Association; and

WHEREAS, For the last 16 years, Gregory S. McGuinness has proudly
lived in Bay Ridge, where he owns and operates CPA Tax Planning at 9710
3rd Avenue, specializing in personal and business accounting and taxes;
dedicated to his profession, he is involved with the American Institute
of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA); and

WHEREAS, Gregory S. McGuinness also serves on the Timmy Stackpole
Foundation Board, and is a faithful member of Our Lady of Angels Parish
in Bay Ridge where his two eldest sons attend elementary school; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of eight years,
Dina, and their three sons, Sean, James and Eamon, all of whom have
shown him love and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and

WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal for the Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade, Gregory S. McGuinness embodies the spirit and the
cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Gregory S. McGuinness upon the occasion of his designation as
Deputy Marshal of the 2018 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gregory S. McGuinness.
