COMMENDING Dette Trout Flies upon the occasion of
celebrating its 90th Anniversary

WHEREAS; It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Dette Trout Flies upon the occasion of celebrating its 90th
Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1928 by Walt and Winnie Dette, Dette Trout
Flies is the oldest family run fly shop in the world; Walt and Winnie
taught themselves how to tie; they bought $50 worth of flies, untied
them, reconstructed them, and then reverse engineered them; and

WHEREAS, Walt and Winnie Dette's daughter, Mary, eventually took
over the shop; after learning the art of tying, her grandson, Joe Fox,
took over the business three years ago after Mary retired; and

WHEREAS, Joe Fox truly enjoys his work; as an experienced angler, he
knows and appreciates what his customer desires; after 90 years of
business, the shop continues to offer its tied in house, or by a handful
of select domestic tiers, flies; fly tying materials; and fly fishing
gear which is comprised of only the highest quality products; and

WHEREAS, Joe Fox loves to spend time with his customers, and calls
many of them his friends; he enjoys chatting about his products, and his
own fishing experiences with a simple stick in the middle of nature and
its resplendent power and glory; and

WHEREAS, In addition to Joe, Dette Trout Flies has one other
full-time employee, Bryn Bode, who manages the shop's internet business
and serves as a guide; and

WHEREAS, Started by original owner, Walt Dette, Dette Trout Flies
also offers daily weather and conditions reports compiled from anglers
who are on the water; fishermen can call or go online and find
information on water levels, where people have been catching fish, and
what is happening with hatches; and

WHEREAS, Perhaps the most important service Dette Trout Flies offers
is its vast knowledge; customers know they can come to the shop and not
only get high quality flies and other equipment, but also some free
advice and a little lesson on how to improve their fly fishing skills;
and

WHEREAS, From its humble beginnings in the late 1920s, this vital
business continues to supply the fly fishing community with the finest
products and quality customer service; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident it will continue to enjoy the
sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dette Trout Flies upon the occasion of celebrating its 90th
Anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joe Fox, Owner, Dette Trout Flies.
