HONORING Rosemary Davis upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2018 Tara Award by
the Daughters of Erin
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rosemary
Davis upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2018 Tara
Award by the Daughters of Erin; and
WHEREAS, The esteemed Tara Award is given annually to an individual
who promotes the Daughters of Erin, assists the Knights of Equity in
their endeavors, takes part in Catholic action, fosters Americanism, and
promotes Irish culture; and
WHEREAS, Rosemary Davis was born to John and MaryEllen McEvoy Dwyer
of the First Ward neighborhood of Buffalo, New York; after graduating
from Saint Ann's High School, she went to work at Remington Rand, a
business machines manufacturer; and
WHEREAS, Rosemary Davis married her husband, Harry Davis, and
together, the couple were the proud parents of four children; after her
husband's sudden death, she began a 25-year career as a certification
officer for TAP at Erie Community College's South Campus; and
WHEREAS, Proud of her Irish heritage, Rosemary Davis has served
Daughters of Erin Buffalo Court 5 in numerous capacities including
Trustee, Financial Secretary, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Vice
President and President; and
WHEREAS, Rosemary Davis is a true asset to this vital organization;
in addition to her leadership positions, she is always available to help
at various community events such as the Annual Pot Luck Supper, the
Christmas Party, the Calendar Luncheon, the Buffalo Irish Festival, and
the Book, Bake, and Craft Fair which she established; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her four children, Robin
Messenger, Laura Drew, Rick Davis, and Jeffrey Davis, and her 13
grandchildren, all of whom have shown her love and support and rejoice
in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Rosemary Davis has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rosemary Davis upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2018 Tara Award by the Daughters of Erin; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Rosemary Davis.
