COMMENDING Ecegul Somay upon the occasion of her
designation as a 2018 SUNY New Paltz School of
Business Hall of Fame inductee as Student Leader of
the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Ecegul Somay upon the occasion of her designation as a 2018 SUNY
New Paltz School of Business Hall of Fame inductee as Student Leader of
the Year, to be celebrated at an Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, April
18, 2018, at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie, New York; and

WHEREAS, A young woman of singular distinction, Ecegul Somay has
distinguished herself as an individual of superlative ability,
establishing a high standard of academic excellence and purposefulness
of life rarely achieved in youthful years; and

WHEREAS, An exceptional student at both SUNY New Paltz and Istanbul
Technical University, Ecegul Somay has achieved tremendous success as a
scholar and a leader; and

WHEREAS, Ecegul Somay is a student of the SUNY New Paltz School of
Business and has served as a role model to her fellow students; she is a
student advisor for the SUNY-YOK Dual Diploma Program, a member of the
School of Business Dean's Student Advisory Board, and a Graduate
Assistant in International Student Programs; and

WHEREAS, As a student at Istanbul Technical University, Ecegul Somay
has developed skills applicable to a wide variety of international
business settings; she successfully completed an internship at
Mediterranean Shipping Company, and was a volunteer with AIESEC, a
non-governmental, not-for-profit organization of youth which is a
recognized partner of the United Nations; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Ecegul Somay, a
young woman and able scholar, recognizing the value of her labors and
the promise of her future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ecegul Somay upon the occasion of her designation as a 2018 SUNY
New Paltz School of Business Hall of Fame inductee as Student Leader of
the Year, to honor her outstanding academic achievements, and to extend
to her best wishes for a future of purposeful success and well-being,
fully confident of her response to a promising future and appreciative
of the model she represents for all aspiring young people of the Empire
State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ecegul Somay.
