COMMENDING the National Black Law Students
Association upon the occasion of hosting its 50th
National Convention in Brooklyn, New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those
enduring organizations which devote their purposeful energies to
improving the quality and dignity of life of those they serve, to
preserving their heritage, and to fostering pride among them; and

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to
recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of
society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the
basic humanity among us all; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the National Black Law Students Association upon the occasion of
hosting its 50th National Convention from March 13-17, 2018, at the New
York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, This year's theme, "Celebrating Our Legacy, Advancing our
Mission" will come to life with various social, professional and
educational opportunities; and

WHEREAS, For 50 years, the National Black Law Students Association
(NBLSA) has strived to increase the number of culturally responsible
Black and minority attorneys that excel academically, succeed
professionally, and positively impact the community; and

WHEREAS, With nearly 6,000 members and over 200 chapters, the
National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) is the largest
student-run corporation in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1968 by A.J. Cooper, NBLSA has continuously
articulated and promoted the needs and goals of black law students, and
worked tirelessly to effectuate change in the legal community; and

WHEREAS, The mission of the National Black Law Students Association
is aimed at bringing about meaningful legal and political change that
addresses the needs and concerns of the black community; and

WHEREAS, Our society is greatly benefited by the purposeful efforts
of individuals and organizations who unite for the cause of improving
the quality of life for others, and who proactively work toward the goal
of dignity for all; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the National Black Law Students Association upon the occasion of
hosting its 50th National Convention in Brooklyn, New York; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Murielle Henriquez, National Convention Coordinator,
National Black Law Students Association.
