CONGRATULATING Laura Gabella upon the occasion of
her induction into the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame on November 4, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Laura Gabella upon the occasion of her induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; this momentous occasion was
celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, Laura Gabella is a 2002 graduate of SUNY Orange, where she
distinguished herself by her many notable achievements as a member of
the tennis team; and

WHEREAS, During her time at SUNY Orange, Laura Gabella played
singles and doubles for the tennis team; as a freshman, she went 6-0 at
No. 3 singles and 6-1 for No. 2 doubles; during her sophomore year, she
improved to a mark of 6-2 at No. 1 singles and 7-0 at No. 1 doubles; and

WHEREAS, In 2001, Laura Gabella was named First Team All-Region XV,
and helped lead the Colts to the NJCAA National Tournament where she was
a finalist at No. 3 singles, and won the doubles No. 2 Championship; and

WHEREAS, In 2002, Laura Gabella was again named to the All-Region
First Team, and won championships at both No. 1 singles and No. 1
doubles at the NJCAA National Tournament in Arizona; and

WHEREAS, Laura Gabella then transferred to Pace University, where
she continued to play in singles and doubles matches for the tennis
team; and

WHEREAS, After graduating, Laura Gabella became a certified
instructor and served as a volunteer Coach for the SUNY Orange Tennis
Team, and Coach of the Goshen High School Tennis Team; and

WHEREAS, In 2008, Laura Gabella captured the Bronze Ball at the USTA
National Grass Court Championship and has played on various other USTA
teams including women's and mixed doubles; and

WHEREAS, Athletes such as Laura Gabella provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Laura Gabella for
her extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to her
skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Laura Gabella upon the occasion of her induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame on November 4, 2017; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Laura Gabella.
