HONORING Jean P. Murphy upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2018 Volunteer of
the Year Award by the Center for Nursing and
Rehabilitation Brooklyn on April 20, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jean P. Murphy upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2018 Volunteer of the Year Award by the Center for Nursing and
Rehabilitation Brooklyn to be celebrated at its Annual Event in the
Atrium on Friday, April 20, 2018; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will also recognize National
Volunteer Week, which was first designated by an Executive Order from
President Richard Nixon in 1974; this week in April serves to encourage
people to engage in their community through volunteer service; and
WHEREAS, Jean Patrice Murphy was born on January 16, 1951, in
Brooklyn, New York, where she graduated with an honor diploma in art,
fashion, and social skills from Prospect Heights High School; she then
majored in art and social skills at Brooklyn College; and
WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, Jean P. Murphy began her 14-year career
with Con Edison; during this time, she also worked in several nursing
facilities; and
WHEREAS, After she recovered from a serious illness, Jean P. Murphy
furthered her education by earning her ministry degree from both
Kingsborough Community College and Brooklyn College; she then became a
minister at the Resurrection Temple Church where she teaches weekly
Bible classes, and holds workshops for children and adults; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Jean P. Murphy decided to become a volunteer at
the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Brooklyn; in this capacity,
she delivers non-denominational services to residents from different
backgrounds and abilities; and
WHEREAS, Jean P. Murphy also enjoys bringing hope, prayers and
support to not only the residents and their families, but also to staff
members; and
WHEREAS, Service to community and country is the foundation of our
society, and the contributions and future efforts of those in service to
them are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of our
communities; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jean P. Murphy upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award by the Center for Nursing and
Rehabilitation Brooklyn; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jean P. Murphy.
