CONGRATULATING the students of Grand Island High
School upon the occasion of winning the Western New
York Technology Education Association Tech Wars Cup
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in the areas of Science and
Technology are worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and
pay tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success
in educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the students of Grand Island High School upon the occasion
of winning the Western New York Technology Education Association Tech
Wars Cup at the 21st Annual competition on Wednesday, January 11, 2017,
at Niagara County Community College; and
WHEREAS, Tech Wars is an academically based technology competition
that challenges middle and high school students in multiple
project-based events of skill, chance and ability; the competition
included such events as bridge testing, vex robotics, 3D modeling and
CO2 car races; and
WHEREAS, Of the more than 500 middle and high school students from
26 school districts from all over Western New York, Grand Island High
School took home the grand prize, the Western New York Technology
Education Association Tech Wars Cup, for the seventh time in nine years;
and
WHEREAS, The talent displayed by the team of 65 students from Grand
Island High School is due in great part to the efforts of Technology
Teacher Carl Koppmann, a skilled and inspirational tutor, respected for
his ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose,
these students now stand honorably, with just pride in their
accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges,
understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided
by their teachers, coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the students of Grand Island High School upon the occasion
of winning the Western New York Technology Education Association Tech
Wars Cup; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Grand Island High School.
