COMMENDING John Webster upon the occasion of his
induction into the SUNY Sullivan Hall of Fame on
March 16, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the distinguished educators and athletic coaches who serve the young
adults of this great Empire State and who have distinguished themselves
and their schools through outstanding commitment and exemplary athletic
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commend John Webster upon the occasion of his induction into the SUNY
Sullivan Hall of Fame to be celebrated at a Ceremony on Friday, March
16, 2018, in Harold Gold Founders Hall at SUNY Sullivan, Loch Sheldrake,
New York; and

WHEREAS, John "Web" Webster was a highly respected physical educator
with the SUNY Sullivan Athletic Department for 31 years; in this
capacity, he taught and coached thousands of students, bringing them to
their highest levels of fitness and performance; and

WHEREAS, John Webster began his coaching career with the SUNY
Sullivan Basketball Team, where he earned 94 career wins; as Head Coach
of the Women's Volleyball program, he guided the Generals to 10
Mid-Hudson Conference Titles reaching the 1996 Region XV Championship;
this monumental win earned the team a berth in the NJCAA Division III
Women's Volleyball Championship; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, John Webster successfully coached
several All-Americans; through his steadfast efforts, many of his
student athletes continued their athletic careers after graduation,
often earning scholarships to play at the NCAA level; and

WHEREAS, John Webster was not only a coach, but a friend and
motivator; his athletes were taught the importance of good sportsmanship
and how to balance athletics while maintaining good grades; he always
strived to make his students proud, well-rounded citizens; and

WHEREAS, John Webster's enduring success as a coach and mentor has
earned him the just respect and admiration of his community, his peers,
and the athletes he has so ably coached; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to commend John Webster for
his extraordinary athletic and coaching accomplishments which are a
tribute to his skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to commend John Webster upon the occasion of his
induction into the SUNY Sullivan Hall of Fame on March 16, 2018; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John Webster.
