CONGRATULATING Chautauqua County Sheriff's Senior
Dispatcher Steven McAninch upon the occasion of
being named Emergency Communicator of the Year by
the New York State Sheriffs' Institute

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those individuals who have exhibited great dedication in
protecting their neighbors from harm and other disasters in this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Chautauqua County Sheriff's Senior Dispatcher Steven
McAninch upon the occasion of being named Emergency Communicator of the
Year by the New York State Sheriffs' Institute; and

WHEREAS, Steven McAninch helped locate a woman and save her life on
July 27, 2016, after she threatened to harm herself on social media;
Steven received a call from Facebook's security team in Ireland that a
Steamburg woman had threatened self-harm on social media; with the help
of Verizon Wireless, he was able to relay the woman's location to the
Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office; and

WHEREAS, Two hours after the initial call from Ireland, law
enforcement located the woman, conscious; she was taken to UPMC
Chautauqua WCA Hospital for treatment; and

WHEREAS, Steven McAninch's quick thinking saved her life and has
further demonstrated his expertise in emergency communications for the
Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office; and

WHEREAS, Steven McAninch was selected as the Emergency Communicator
of the Year, not only for his efforts in this case, but also due to his
34-year outstanding career at the Sheriff's Office, 14 years of which he
served as a Supervisor; and

WHEREAS, Steven McAninch has been involved in many areas of the 911
Center, including the development and operation of the Agency's Computer
Aided Dispatch System (CAD), the oversight of response plans for fire
and EMS, testing and implementation of the new county-wide public safety
radio system and the upgrade of the 911 system; and

WHEREAS, Sufficient gratitude cannot be expressed to all those
individuals devoted to public safety who generously give of their time
and talents, working to keep their communities safe; and

WHEREAS, Observing that special recognition should be given to those
who work so assiduously for the betterment of their communities, and
they should be acknowledged publicly for the good works they do for
their families and neighbors in this great Empire State; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Chautauqua County Sheriff's Senior Dispatcher Steven
McAninch upon the occasion of being named Emergency Communicator of the
Year by the New York State Sheriffs' Institute; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Senior Dispatcher Steven McAninch.
