COMMENDING Brookdale University Hospital Medical
Center upon the occasion of participating in the
Bleeding Control (B-Con) free training day, in
conjunction with the observance of National Stop the
Bleed Day on March 31, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality of life in the communities across this great State of New
York is enriched by the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations of distinction whose singular purpose is the care and
welfare of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center upon the occasion
of participating in the Bleeding Control (B-Con) free training day, in
conjunction with the observance of National Stop the Bleed Day on March
31, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Launched in 2015, the National Stop the Bleed Campaign is a
call to action; a person can die from blood loss within five minutes,
therefore, it is important to stop the blood loss as quickly as
possible; and
WHEREAS, Trauma is the leading cause of death for Americans under
the age of 46; the top cause of preventable death in trauma is bleeding;
20% of people who have died from traumatic injuries could have survived
with quick bleeding control; 35% of pre-hospital deaths are due to blood
loss; and
WHEREAS, 80 percent of victims in a mass casualty event are trans-
ported to the hospital by members of the public; and
WHEREAS, On March 31, 2018, the staff of Brookdale University
Hospital Medical Center, as well as instructors and students from both
New York State and the entire country will gather together for a day of
Bleeding Control (B-CON) training free of charge; and
WHEREAS, This important event will train individuals how to help
someone in a life-threatening situation before emergency responders
arrive by learning how to use tourniquets, how to pack a wound
correctly, and other ways to stop a person from bleeding; and
WHEREAS, Our hospitals serve the vital purpose of providing for the
healthcare needs of our citizens through excellence in the delivery of
medical services; and
WHEREAS, Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, and its
expert staff, has had a long and sustained commitment to the health and
welfare of the citizens of Brooklyn, and therefore merits the highest
commendation of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center upon the occasion
of participating in the Bleeding Control (B-Con) free training day, in
conjunction with the observance of National Stop the Bleed Day on March
31, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, Brooklyn,
New York.
