COMMENDING the Original Herkimer County Cheese
Company upon the occasion of being named a 2018
Golden Anniversary honoree by the Herkimer County
Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and companies which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Original Herkimer County Cheese Company upon the occasion of
being named a 2018 Golden Anniversary honoree by the Herkimer County
Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated at its 50th Anniversary Membership
Meeting and Luncheon on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Francesca's Banquet
Hall, Ilion, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Herkimer Cheese tradition has its roots in the rich
soil of New York's Herkimer County, where conditions are ideal for dairy
farming; and

WHEREAS, By the 1850s, the area became a major center of cheese
production because the milk produced there was so wholesome and
plentiful; soon Herkimer County cheddar cheese was known the world over
for its exceptional flavor and quality; and

WHEREAS, The Original Herkimer County Cheese Company was founded in
1949, by Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Basloe; since that time, the Basloes and
their sons have earned a national reputation for their finely crafted
artisan cheeses, carrying the proud Herkimer County Cheese tradition
forward into the 21st Century; and

WHEREAS, The company's world renowned aged cheddar is used to make
all its cheese products which are carefully made in small batches by
skilled craftsmen to ensure satisfaction with every bite; its cheese
balls, logs, spreads, dips, fudge and other fine products have enjoyed
great success with retailers throughout the country; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling achievements it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Original Herkimer County Cheese Company upon the occasion of
being named a 2018 Golden Anniversary honoree by the Herkimer County
Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Original Herkimer County Cheese Company.
