COMMEMORATING the 48th Annual LGBT Pride March in
New York City on June 24, 2018, an extraordinary
event honoring and celebrating the LGBT community

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge exceptional
events that enrich the people of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, The 48th Annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender
(LGBT) Pride March will be commemorated in New York City on Sunday, June
24, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The first LGBT Pride March in New York City was held in
1970, and in the decades since it has grown to be an extraordinary
annual event honoring and celebrating the LGBT community; and

WHEREAS, LGBT people have made important and lasting contributions
to our great State and Nation in every field of endeavor including
business, medicine, law, humanities, science, literature, politics,
education, music, philanthropy, sports, arts, and culture that enrich
our national life; and

WHEREAS, The LGBT Pride March in New York City celebrates the impact
LGBT people have had on the world and represents our collective fight
against prejudice and discrimination; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, the purpose of the LGBT Pride March has
broadened to recognize the battle against HIV/AIDS and remember those
who we have lost; and

WHEREAS, The LGBT Pride March in New York City is one of the many
Pride marches, parades, and celebrations that will be held across New
York State throughout the month of June, from Buffalo to Albany to the
Hudson Valley to Long Island; and

WHEREAS, Marchers and spectators from around the world will convene
in New York City on June 24th, representing LGBT people and allies who
come from all walks of life, regardless of race, color, religion,
ancestry, ethnicity, national origin, economic status, physical or
mental ability, medical condition, sex, gender identity or expression;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 48th Annual LGBT Pride March in New York City on June
24, 2018.
