HONORING 14 First Responders upon the occasion of
their designation as recipients of the Ambulance
Call of the Year Award by the East Williston Fire
Department on April 21, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals within the State of New York who, in
the course of their jobs, perform acts of heroic dimension; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
14 First Responders upon the occasion of their designation as recipients
of the Ambulance Call of the Year Award by the East Williston Fire
Department, to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner on Saturday, April 21,
2018, at the North Hills Country Club, Manhasset, New York; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, July 15, 2017, a call was dispatched for an
unresponsive female at her home in East Williston, New York; Nassau
County Police Officers Sean Coffey and Will Orgera were the first to
arrive to find the patient not breathing and without a pulse; and
WHEREAS, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was initiated and the
automated external defibrillator (AED) was set up as East Williston Fire
Department Chief/EMT Patrick Theodore arrived on the scene; and
WHEREAS, East Williston Fire Department First Response Unit 812
arrived with Firefighters David Black, Vincent DelGatto, Nicholas
DiPasquale, Kevin O'Donnell, Cesar Romero and EMT Jonathan Viola; and
WHEREAS, Williston Park Fire Department Ambulance 866 arrived next
with EMT-CC Frank Chester, and EMTs Brendan Duggan, James Duggan and
Dylan Perro; after multiple shocks from the AED, CPR was continued as
the patient was placed in the Williston Park Fire Department ambulance;
and
WHEREAS, Nassau County Police Department Emergency Ambulance Bureau
Paramedic Jose Hernandez came on board Ambulance 866 to assist with the
advanced life support (ALS) measures initiated en route to Winthrop
University Hospital where return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC)
occurred prior to the arrival at the emergency room; and
WHEREAS, As a result of the quick and professional actions of these
14 First Responders, the patient was able to leave the hospital after a
few short weeks and resume her normal life; and
WHEREAS, So aptly demonstrating their character and compassion for
the welfare of their neighbors, these 14 First Responders truly merit
the grateful tribute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to individuals within the State of New York who perform
their jobs with diligence and precision, resulting in heroic life-saving
actions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor 14 First Responders upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Ambulance Call of the Year Award, noting the
significance of their immediate and unconditional response to come to
the aid of another; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the 14 aforementioned First Responders.
