MOURNING the death of John F. Bernard Sr.,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of John F. Bernard Sr., noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, John F. "Jack" Bernard Sr. of Walden, New York, died on
Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, The son of the late Fred and Ada Edwards Bernard, John F.
Bernard Sr. was born on January 8, 1931 in Wallkill, New York; and
WHEREAS, John F. Bernard Sr. distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, John F. Bernard Sr. worked as a Toll Collector for the New
York State Bridge Authority on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge for 37 years;
and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary man's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering dedication to his
community, John F. Bernard Sr. was a Life Member of the Enterprise
Steamer Company of the Walden Fire Department and served as an Officer
in the Walden Fire Police; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his loving wife, Esther Haun Bernard, John
F. Bernard Sr. is survived by his son, John Jr.; three daughters,
Jacqueline Rose (Daniel), Joann and Janice (Frank); a sister, Alice; 11
grandchildren: Toby, Tabitha, Shannon, Suzette, John III, Jeniffer,
Patrick, Jeremy, Matthew, Frankie and Emilee; 11 great-grandchildren;
and nieces and nephews; he was predeceased by his son, James; daughter,
Debora; brother, Fred; and sister, Edith; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, John F. Bernard Sr. leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of John F. Bernard Sr., distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of John F. Bernard Sr.
