COMMENDING Celeste Vazzana upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by RSVP of
Westchester
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Celeste
Vazzana upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
RSVP of Westchester celebrated at its Annual Spring Recognition Event at
Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry, New York; and
WHEREAS, At the age of 101, Celeste Vazzana has lived a long life,
full of ups and downs, but has persisted and made the best of it for her
family in light of any obstacles she faced; and
WHEREAS, Celeste Vazzana was married for 30 years before her husband
passed away in 1967; on her own with five young daughters, she went back
to work full-time at the New York Telephone Company so that her
daughters could all finish or attend college; and
WHEREAS, In addition to caring for her beloved family, Celeste
Vazzana has served her fellow man, woman and child as a volunteer at the
White Plains Hospital Gift Shop for almost three decades; as a Senior
Corps member, she has logged in more than 6,600 hours of her time and
energy to helping others; and
WHEREAS, Celeste Vazzana has truly come to embody the motto that
"Senior Corps members get things done"; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Service to community and country is the foundation of our
society, and the contributions and future efforts of those in service to
them are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of our
communities; and
WHEREAS, Celeste Vazzana, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those she serves through her
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commending Celeste Vazzana upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by RSVP of Westchester; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Celeste Vazzana.
