COMMENDING East Flatbush Village Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting its 8th Annual Not in my Hood
March and Resources and Health Fair on June 2, 2018
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend East
Flatbush Village Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 8th Annual Not in
my Hood March and Resources and Health Fair on Saturday, June 2, 2018;
and
WHEREAS, Through East Flatbush Village's EFV E.N.O.U.G.H.
Initiative, the Not in my Hood March gives young people the opportunity
to take a proactive stand to the violence in their community; and
WHEREAS, The anti-violence march will kick off at Meyer Levin Junior
High School and head down to the Resource and Health Fair on Church
Avenue between East 46th Street and Schenectady Avenue; and
WHEREAS, The Fair will offer youth information about job
opportunities, summer youth programs and other educational resources;
they can also learn more about anti-violence initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Established in 2008, East Flatbush Village diligently works
to uplift its Neighbors with Neighbors; this vital not-for-profit
organization provides programs for young people and provides resources
to the entire family which in turn will repair the community; and
WHEREAS, East Flatbush Village established the EFV E.N.O.U.G.H.
(Educating, Neighborhoods, Organizing, Under-served,
Grassroots-organizing and Health-awareness) Initiative, which involves
community organizing designed to curtail rising street violence within
its community; E.N.O.U.G.H. uses the Not in my Hood March, Participatory
Budgeting programs, Know Your Rights forums and other workshops, Occupy
the Corner and the Shooting Response Team, where they coordinate with
local clergy, violence interrupters and local elected officials to
provide assistance to families impacted by gang or street violence; and
WHEREAS, An after-school program which utilizes the E.N.O.U.G.H.
Initiative is currently being implemented at Meyer Levin Junior High
School and Kurt Hahn Expeditionary Learning School; the program is aimed
at youth, ages 11-18, who have displayed conduct consistent with
involvement in gang activities and other types of unproductive behavior;
and
WHEREAS, The goal of this vital program is to impact the lives of
these students in a positive way, to encourage them to correct their
behavior and give them necessary tools and opportunity to mentor others
around them; the participants will learn about E.N.O.U.G.H.'s six
pillars: accountability, unity, responsibility, creativity, restraint,
and mentorship throughout the course of the program; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend East Flatbush Village Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 8th
Annual Not in my Hood March and Resources and Health Fair on June 2,
2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to East Flatbush Village Inc.
