MOURNING the death of Damien Lynwood Pope,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Damien Lynwood Pope was born on February 16, 1982, in
Wilmington, Delaware, to the late Lance Lynwood Pope and Deborah Ann
Dempsey Pope; he died on Friday, May 4, 2018, at the age of 36; and
WHEREAS, Damien Lynwood Pope attended school in the Brandywine
School District, during which time he worked at Funscape, now Regal
Cinemas at Brandywine Town Center; early on, his leadership skills and
work ethic were apparent, leading to many managerial roles; and
WHEREAS, With a sincere dedication to getting the job done, Damien
Lynwood Pope spent 13 years working at several Wawa locations and
developed countless lifelong friendships with his coworkers; and
WHEREAS, On July 23, 2013, Damien Lynwood Pope and the former Beth
Thompson were united in marriage, and from this union, Darien Lee and
Layla Grace were born; and
WHEREAS, A gentle soul and dedicated father, Damien Lynwood Pope
found so much joy spending time with his family and would do anything
for their well-being; and
WHEREAS, Damien Lynwood Pope is survived by his wife, Beth; two
children, Darien and Layla; his mother, Deborah; and his siblings,
Michelle (Earl) and Marc (Leah); as well as a host of nephews, nieces,
cousins and friends; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Damien Lynwood Pope leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Damien Lynwood Pope, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Damien Lynwood Pope.
