CONGRATULATING Matt Dillon upon the occasion of
his induction into the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame on November 12, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Matt Dillon upon the occasion of his induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; this momentous occasion was
celebrated on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, Matt Dillon is a 1987 graduate of SUNY Orange, where he
distinguished himself by his many notable achievements; he played
basketball, baseball and soccer, but excelled on the hardwood; and
WHEREAS, Known as a tough and competitive player, Matt Dillon scored
1,000 points during his illustrious college career; as a freshman he led
the nation with 17.6 rebounds a game, and during his sophomore year he
averaged 21.9 points and 9.8 rebounds a game; and
WHEREAS, Matt Dillon continued playing his junior and senior seasons
at Bridgeport University in Connecticut; he later returned to SUNY
Orange as an assistant coach in 1997, and worked his way up the coaching
ranks, spending time at East Stroudsburg, Bridgeport and Post
University; and
WHEREAS, After earning an assistant position at Niagara University
in 2002, Matt Dillon was instrumental in the school reaching the NCAA
tournament in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Matt Dillon provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Matt Dillon for his
extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill,
dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Matt Dillon upon the occasion of his induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame on November 12, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Matt Dillon.
